Early Life[edit]

Richard was born, during an air raid, on the 7th of August 1940 in Liverpool. He was the son of Mary and Tom. His father Tom was a sales manager while his mother was a P.A at Littlewoods pools. He has one sister, Vivian, who sadly suffered some mental health issue caused by complications at birth.

He started his education at the Lidder Dale Nursery where he says on his first day, “he was subjected to a punch and duty show”. This traumatised him, so he still hates Punch and Judy to this day. Ironically, many years later, he did a Radio four play with Ian Jury, where Richard played Mr Punch.

Eventually Richard secured a scholarship at Liverpool Junior Arts School, where Cynthia Powell was a fellow student.

After a short break, after studying Botanical illustration and horticulture, Richard entered Liverpool Art College where he studied Typographical and Graphic Design. It was at this time he met John Lennon, who married Cynthia Powell.

After College Richard started his career in publishing, advertising and Higher Education.

In 1975 Richard fulfilled an ambition by becoming a professional actor.

Richard is married to Wendy and has three Children, two daughters and one son.

When not acting Richard takes an active role in his local Parish church where he sings, is a church guide and is active Reader. As a reader he is on the rota for reading lessons during the services.

Should he find time, Richard says "he pulls out the brushes and paints and relaxes by painting."
