Friend of Nak

Nak (Thai: นาค) Nak is a Thai animated film directed by Natthaphong Rattanachoksirikul, released on April 3, 2008, grossing 10 million baht.

Mythology-Thai folklore

[edit]

Mae Nak Phra Khanong (Thai: เเม่นาคพระโขนง)often called Mae Nak (Thai: เเม่นาค) for short also known as Nang (Thai: นาค) (A formal title used in Thailand to address married women, equivalent to Mrs.) Nak The story of Mae Nak has been a part of Thai folklore for centuries. It is set in the Phra Khanong district of Bangkok, during the reign of King Rama III. The story represents the love between Mae Nak, once known as Nang Nak, and her husband, Mr. Mak. Unfortunately, their happiness was short-lived as Mr. Mak was called up to serve in the army, leaving Nang Nak behind, who was pregnant at the time. Tragedy struck when Nang Nak faced complications during childbirth, causing both her and her unborn child's death. Mr. Mak was still unknowing of his wife's death and returned home to a warm reception from the villagers. He noticed that no one visited their house, but he ignored the villagers' warnings, remaining ignorant of his wife's ghostly presence. Nang Nak, unable to accept her death, manifested as a spirit in physical form, desperate to be reunited with her beloved husband. Her unnatural abilities and fierce determination to keep Mr. Mak by her side caused chaos in the community. Finally realizing the truth of his wife's ghostly presence, Mr. Mak devised a plan to escape her grasp. With the help of a monk, Mae Nak's spirit was finally gone in peace. The legend of Mae Nak is a cautionary tale about the power of love, the consequences of unresting oneself, and the enduring presence of spirits in Thai folklore. It serves as a reminder of the importance of letting go of in past and focusing on the present. [2][3]
