Nabeba is the location of an iron ore mine in Congo. It will be connected to the port of Kribi by a standard gauge railway (since 2024 under construction) mainly passing through territory of near by Cameroon. This line will be built by the Portuguese company of Mota-Engil. This keeps costs down compared to a railway entirely within Congo and Gabon territory.
The length of the rail lines including branch is about 580km.[1] The axleload on the lines is 37.5t.[2]
The Nababa deposit was originally owned by[3] Sundance Resources but ownership was lost to Chinese firms.[4]
The Nabeba and Mbalam mines are part of the same iron ore deposit split between Congo and Cameroon respectively.[5] The two mines have combined ore reserves of about 775m tonnes.[6]
