The Siege of Bikaner (1534), fought between Bikaner and Mughal empire, where Rao Jaitsi of Bikaner successfully defended his capital and defeated a Mughal army under Kamran, brother of Mughal emperor Humayun.
Background
[edit]Influence of Mughals was growing rapidly after the battle of Panipat and khanwa. Humayun sent his brother, Kamran Mirza, who took bhatner and marched towards Bikaner.
Battle
[edit]Kamran, a brother of Humayun laid a siege on the fort of Bikaner in 1534. Rao Jaitsi put up a strong defence which forced the Mughal army to retreat towards northwest in the direction of Lahore.
Aftermath
[edit]Kamran, after facing defeat at Bikaner fled towards Lahore in such a hurry that his royal umbrella fell near Chotriya and none of them stopped to pick it up.
Legend of Karni-ji
[edit]According to the Bikaneri legends, the victory was ensured due to their patron-deity Karni. The local balladeers sing how the battle field was seemed to be filled with Charan women instead of Bikaneri soldiers.
