This is a list of prime ministers of Japan by age, including when they were born, what age they were when they were appointed prime minister, what age they were when they left the office and the age at which they died, or their current age as of 23 November 2024 if they are still alive. The table can be sorted by each different category.
The date of appointment is the date on which they were appointed by the emperor for their first term. The day on which they departed office is the final day of their final term. This is either the day a new prime minister was appointed or their date of death if they died whilst in office.
Overview
[edit]The oldest living prime minister is Tomiichi Murayama, born 3 March 1924 (aged 100 years, 265 days). The youngest living prime minister is Fumio Kishida (incumbent), born 29 July 1957 (aged 67 years, 117 days).
The longest-lived prime minister was Prince Naruhiko Higashikuni who lived to the age of 102 years, 48 days. Yasuhiro Nakasone was the second longest-lived prime minister who lived to the age of 101 years, 186 days. The second oldest-living prime minister, Yasuo Fukuda, will tie Nakasone if he lives to 16 January 2038. The shortest-lived prime minister was Fumimaro Konoe, who died at the age of 54 years, 65 days.
The prime minister with the longest retirement is Higashikuni. He left office on 9 October 1945, and died 44 years, and 103 days later on 20 January 1990. The prime minister with the shortest retirement is Keizō Obuchi, who died on 14 May 2000, 39 days after he left office on 5 April 2000.
