One side of the temple is covered by huge trees of Western Ghats, while on the other side is river Nethravathi flowing in tranquility adding more splendour to the place. In the backside of the temple is safely protected ‘Devarakadu’ covering an area not less than five acres. Devarakadu near the temple is also called as ‘Bavali Vana,’ as this forest is an abode of bats that exist in numerous numbers. Devarakadu is protected since time immemorial as there is a strong belief in the villagers that the day bats disappear in Devarakadu, it indicates a severe threat to the village. For the same reason no villager dares to step inside Devarakadu and pluck the plants. In fact, the forest is guarded by the forest department guards so as to avoid any miscreants involving in illegal transportation of trees at Devarakadu. The forest consists of hundreds of medicinal herbs to treat the villagers in case of illness and also inhabits wide varieties of species. Goddess Durga is worshipped in the temple and therefore Navaratri festival is celebrated here in a grand way. A Naga Bana located in the temple premise is also a worship place for the devotees. Though the temple was renovated recently, the classic old look of the temple has been maintained. The temple is located nearby the most sought after trekking place Gadaikallu and all those who visit Gadaikallu can pay a visit to the temple too.

This Prakrituruppurne Bhagwati, incarnated as Dakshaputri and became Brahmaswarupi. Mahadev took her as his wife. She became Mother Nature Durga in Bhuloka, slaying evil demons. When the life surrendered to Maya begins to ignore that Supreme Power, the Purusha also becomes interested in things, just as Mohatmika takes refuge in Maya. Such enchanted villains perform their work against nature and become a thorn in the side of the nobles. In the past, Adisakti killed the asura called Durgasura as Goddess Durga. His sons, Bhandasura and Ballasura, were living in the netherworld by the strength of Brahma as a thorn in the side of the divine gods and sages, and also in this Naga world. For this reason, sage Agasya, who was born in Kalasha, prepared for Soma Yaga at the foot of Mount Ashvamukh, and called the sages and five ritvikkus. Soma starts the yagna on the full moon. When the Yajna is over, Somaras will overflow from the Yajna. As the nectar-like Somarasa is endowed with the power to ward off death, all the Danujas gather and ask their lords, Bhandasura and Ballasura, to capture Somarasa. When the Asuras, hearing the words of the evil Khala, rush into the yajna school to get somaras, the Agasyas, thinking to prevent the evils from getting the nectar, turn it into water and let it flow. It flows as water. Disappointing to the evil Danuja, when the yagnashala was removed and the munivats were put into the yajna kunda and the dandale was raised, Agastha went to Devi Bhagavati. Then a Nabhovani is heard. "Don't be afraid Agasya! Do 'Shaktiyajna' to please Bhagwati individually, the goddess will be anointed", Augusta starts the Shaktiyajna.

As the yajna ends, Goddess Bhagwati is realized and vanishes saying that she will kill the wicked Bhandasura and Ballasura soon. Augusta goes to the presence of Kalaseshwara for penance. As Goddess Vanadurga, wandering in the forest at the foot of the mountain, when Netravati found her and asked me to be lifted up, let me settle as Durga on your plate, make you a holy tirtha. She screams saying that she will give the power of Ganga to wash away the sins in this realm. One day Bhandasura and Ballasura are roaming in the forest at the foot of Ashvamuk mountain for hunting, a beautiful music comes. Who is singing like this? Vanadurgeu, swinging under a Kadamba tree in the middle of the forest in search, appears to him as a Triloka Mohini. Everyone who saw her was infatuated. They run there and ask us to get married. Then Vanadevi laughed and said, "I cannot be the wife of all! I will be the wife of only one of you. But the one who fulfills one of my wishes will become my husband." Then what is your wish? Asking her to tell, "There is a Kundala bearer named Kundalisha in this forest. Whoever gives me his ear coils, I will become his slave."

At that time, Bhanda immediately went to Kundalisha and asked for his coils. Stands up for war. At this time Bhandasura fights with him, kills him and snatches the kundalas from his ears, when Idiragi finds Ballasura. Handing the kundalas to Ballalasura, he said that he would bathe in the river Nethravathi, and while bathing in the river, Ballasura ran away holding the kundalas and gave them to Vanadevi. Seeing this, Bhandasura got angry, took out his moon weapon, and fought with them. When Ballasura was to die in the battle, Bhandasura went to drag the goddess, the goddess cut off the head of Bhandasura, the avatar of Bhadrakali. Then she throws Bhanda's head to the eastern ghat and Balla's head to the western ghat. Then the Agastvas come. They pray to the goddess to hide her dark form and become calm. Goddess Bhagwati appears in the form of Vanadevi and says, 'Bhanda's burial place will be "Bhandaje" Ballana's burial place will be Bollaje, Kundalisha's burial place will become Kundalabaila, gradually saying "Kodange Bailu" and then I will destroy Keskarta's 'Kolli' and settle down as Kolli Durge.

August from there. He leaves for penance at Suratkal on the western sea side. From the beginning of the Kali Yuga, the Tundaras were ruling here and there, all of them were vassals of the Hoysala emperors. Chandrasekhara of Gangavamsa called it Vangwadi area and ruled as king of that area after adding some villages and estates belonging to Jain savants. Before that, Ganganad was conquered by Vishnuvardhana Bittideva as a war between Ganges and Hoysalas, which caused Chandrasekhara, who belonged to that dynasty, to migrate to Wangwadi area and build a small kingdom here. Under the influence of Ramanucharya, Vishishthadaita, Bittideva converted to Hinduism as Vishnuvardhana and built a Chennakeshava temple in Velapuri (Belur). On this occasion, Chandrasekhara Bangarasa, one of the Jain kings of Tulunad, stopped the tribute to Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysalas. The enraged Hoysala came to Vishnuvardhana's Vangavadi and declared war with Chandrasekhara Banga.

Chandrasekhara Bangarasa entrusted his son, ten-year-old Kamaraya, to the hands of Prime Minister Killur Krishnapayya, a local Brahmin, and sent him saying that you should avoid the eyes of the enemies and protect him in a secret place, and if I survive the battle, he will bring him here. As Krishnapaya moved to Gatta region after taking Kumara Kamaraya, itta Vishnuvardhana's army besieged the Vangwadi region, killed Chandrasekhara Bangarasa in the battle and captured the fort of Vangwadi, placing Vikram as his representative there, he returned to Dorasamudra.

In Vangwadi, Vikrama commits massive atrocities, Dalavai Majalguthu even murders Muddanna's sister Mardedi. He brings prostitutes to the palace and spends his days in drunken revelry, taxing the people here and causing trouble. King Atta Vishnuvardhana dies and his wife Lakshmidevi's son, Veerasimha Ballala succeeds. He treats Dharmabir, Satyasandha, citizens like children and makes them popular. The Hoysala empire expanded and Hoysaleshwara became the emperor. Itta Vangwadi got tired of Vikram's misrule and Dalwai named Muddanna cut off his head and tied it to the gate of the fort. Veeranarasimha Ballala comes to know about this matter. In order to know the truth about Wangwadi, Veeranarasimha along with his wife comes to Tulunadu.
