The film begins two hundred years back in time. Yan Hong (Eva Lai), a virgin maiden was forced to marry the Earth Demon King (Peter Chan Lung) by her villagers as a sacrifice to ensure his evil wrath shall never befall on them. Her entourage was attacked midway by the Demon King and his minions, resulting in the death of Yan Hong, whom her life essence was drained completely before alerting the attention of the elderly but highly experienced Taoist Priest (Wu Ma) of the Linen Sect, having sensed the greater evil's presence nearby. After a brief but fierce battle between good and evil, the evil's heart was impaled and cut out by the Demon Slaying Blade, but not without deceptively and mortally wounding the Priest in the process. The Priest dies shortly and the demon's still beating heart burrows itself underneath the ground; sealing the entity temporarily.

Two hundred years later, benevolent physician Bien (Cheong Kwok Keong) lives with his sister Fu Rong (Joan Tong), and are friends with the current generation's Linen Sect exorcists Chor Yat (Kent Cheng) and Shi Wu (Kenny Ho). One day, Bien attempts to collect a special plant and cuts his palm in the process after believing it to be a rare herb, unbeknownst to him that it was the Demon King's rooted but dormant heart resulting in him falling off a small cliff while collecting herbs uphill and his blood accidentally drips on a set of skeletal remains. Deducing them to be of a young female (Yan Hong's), he gently buries them out of respect for the deceased.

Returning to the village, a group of children playing nearby accidentally knocked Bien's backpack off and the demon's heart fell off the corner of the street unnoticed whereby the good doctor hurries his way to the emergency labour of a pregnant woman. A baby girl was successfully born with the help of Fu Rong, Shi Wu and Chor Yat in the evening. The heart was then unknowingly fed with the disposed blood and placenta of the newborn and thus, reviving the Demon King whom immediately proceeds to feed on the life essence of the baby girl and another victim being Fu Rong's virgin best friend. On that very night, Bien also had an unexpected spiritual visit from Yan Hong (her spirit having indebted and bound by his blood), and they shared a moment of intimacy.

Claiming the incident to be a demonic cause, Chor Yat and Shi Wu investigate the murder and their initial finding suggests that Yan Hong was the culprit. Following Yan's trail to Bien's home, the duo mistakenly thought she was harming Bien. A brief struggle between the three friends leads Yan and the rest into the forest where the Demon King, having just consumed three more virgin female's life essences, restores his powers; reappears and a fierce battle ensued, with the evil gaining the upper hand until he was scared away by Fu Rong's witty imitation of a rooster's crowing, thinking it was sunrise.

Back at the altar and knowing Yan Hong is a benign spirit, she explains to the group that the Demon King only requires the Forty-Ninth essense of a virgin to unlock his virtually indestructible power and immortality. The group then begins to devise a strategy for the evil's next counter- offensive followed by the subsequent heartbroken separation between the tearful Yan Hong and Bien; with the former departing for an after life reincarnation.

Unable to acquire any virgin female as bait, Fu Rong volunteers to become one for the plan. The plan worked during the final battle, resulted in the team suffering heavy injuries. In moments of disparity, Chor Yat then reappears with his newly invented Demon Buster howitzer gun - took a clear aim and finally blasted the Demon King into bits.

Before the credit rolls, the group was seen inspecting the debris of the flame damaged Altar and remains of the great evil as the still beating heart of the creature was never revealed to the heroes with the camera switches angle to the viewer, concluding the segment with a mystery to solve.
