Draft:Cardiovascular health awareness

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cardiovascular health awareness is a critical component of public health initiatives aimed at promoting the well-being of organs within the cardiovascular system, including the heart and blood vessels.[1] Cardiovascular health awareness is one of the most important public health interventions because Cardiovascular disease are the major contribution of deaths worldwide.[2]

Cardiovascular health means  health of organs  of cardiovascular system that includes the heart and blood vessels. Any disease related with heart and blood vessels is called Cardiovascular disease as a whole. Heart attack and stroke are the major cardiovascular diseases and they are under coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease respectively.[3]

Identification and prevention of cardiovascular risk factors are paramount in maintaining cardiovascular health.[4]Important cardiovascular risk factors include hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM), dyslipidemia, smoking, harmful use of tobacco, obesity, physical inactivity and other lifestyle-related factors should be recognized and controlled on time in order to maintain cardiovascular health.[5]

Detection of cardiovascular risk factors typically occurs years before the onset of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). [6]Thus, it becomes crucial to identify these risk factors through effective screening methods, emphasizing the significance of cardiovascular health awareness.

Raising awareness among the general public about cardiovascular diseases and their associated risk factors is a vital aspect of cardiovascular health education. The adoption of unhealthy lifestyle practices often leads to the development of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF), eventually resulting in compromised cardiovascular health and, ultimately, cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Understanding various risk factors and their roles in the development of CVD is of utmost importance. Cardiovascular health awareness helps in the below mentioned ways.

Dietary Awareness[edit]

Understanding the importance of a healthy diet in maintaining cardiovascular health.[7]

Lifestyle Education[edit]

Promoting awareness about lifestyle choices and their impact on cardiovascular well-being.[8]

Exercise Awareness[edit]

Recognizing the significance of regular physical activity for cardiovascular fitness.[9]

Tobacco and Alcohol[edit]

Highlighting the harmful effects of tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption on heart health.[10]

Social Media Impact[edit]

The widespread use of social media has revolutionized cardiovascular health awareness, making it more accessible and effective. The visual and audiovisual resources on these platforms facilitate easier dissemination of information.[11][12]

Celebration of Health Days and Months[edit]

Various societies and organizations actively organize and celebrate World Heart Day on 29th September every year dedicated to cardiovascular health.[13] These events play a critical role in raising awareness, especially with the support of social media platforms for information dissemination.[14] On the occasion of world heart day 2023, Om Murti Anil, a cardiologist from Nepal, set a Guinness World record for cardiovascular health awareness.[15]
