- Comment: Unfortunately the game doesn't yet appear to be demonstrably notable. Reviews from the kind of sources one may see in WP:VG/S are important to show the game has received significant coverage. A lot of the magazine coverage seems promotional and not tied to evaluating the game itself. I'm not sure if Getchu is a RS although if there is secondary coverage of the awards that may help. Mindful this looks like it enters WP:NONENG and enthusiast/niche territory so may need another look from someone more experienced in the sources available, but looks like it falls short of notability at the moment to me. Café Stella and the Reapers' Butterflies (Café Stella to Shinigami no Chou) is a romance visual novel developed by Yuzusoft. It was initially released in Japanese on Windows in December 2019, then later released on Steam in March 2022 by NekoNyan Ltd and Hikari Field with English and Chinese added.[1] It can also be played in Japanese through an Internet browser via Fanza Games.[2]
Story
[edit]The protagonist, Kousei Takamine, was living an ordinary life as a student until he died in a sudden accident. He then woke up again on the morning of the day he was supposed to have died.
He then meets Kanna, a grim reaper, who tells him that his death hasn't been avoided yet, and ends up helping her with her work. This involves opening a cafe run by Kanna and her partner, who appears to be a talking cat. While helping her, he spends his time interacting with a number of cute girls.[3]
The scenario was written by Amamiya Ritsu.[4] In an interview with BugBug magazine, the director Famishin described it as taking place in an everyday world, where certain characters could see remnants of souls that could not be reborn as butterflies, but that he wanted the image to be of a fantasy, rather than a dark worldview.[5]

Manga Adaption
[edit]The story of Café Stella and the Reapers' Butterflies was adapted into a manga by the artist Sesenayou.[7]
Controversy
[edit]In November 2019, Kobe Shimbun reported that the exterior design of Pâtissier S. Koyama, a well-known confectionery shop in Hyogo Prefecture, had been used without permission in the visual novel Café Stella and the Reaper's Butterflies. The developers argued that no copyright infringement occurred, as they had altered the stone wall color and removed the store's logo. Nevertheless, the shop expressed concerns about its association with the game's adult themes and considered further action.[8]
Following public backlash, Yuzusoft quickly replaced the background images. NetLab reported the developer's apology and revision plans, which did not affect the game's release schedule.[9]
Reception
[edit]Café Stella and the Reapers' Butterflies won 4th place overall in the Getchu Bishoujo Game Awards and also received awards in several other categories.[10]
Merchandise
[edit]Café Stella and the Reapers' Butterflies has had multiple types of merchandise released.
Retail stores Gamers, Melon Books, Animate, and Toranoana offered bonus goods when selling the manga.[11]
Broccoli Figure's released figures of Kanna with designs by Haruka Komowata.[12] These were revealed at Wonder Festival 2023 Summer.[13] Alice Glint has also released a figure of Natsume Shiki.[14]
An offer for a B2 tapestry was included in Volume 302 of BugBug Magazine alongside a 14-page feature of the visual novel.[15] and a poster in the March 2020 issue of Monthly Comic Alive.[16]
Body pillows have also been created for as merchandise for this game.[17]
