Blockpliance is an American risk analysis firm headquartered in New York City.[1] Founded in 2021 by Guillermo Fernandes and Donald J. Patterson, Blockpliance develops software to evaluate virtual currency transactions for potential risks. The firm's products are designed to analyze and trace digital assets, providing tools for compliance and fraud detection.

History

[edit]

Blockpliance was established in 2021 with the goal of creating compliance-oriented solutions for the growing cryptocurrency sector. In September 2024, the company became an IBM partner and was listed in the IBM Cloud Catalog as a provider of blockchain fraud detection services.[2]

Investigations and Collaborations

[edit]

Blockpliance has been referenced in media reports for its involvement in investigations concerning cryptocurrency-related wrongdoing. According to Reuters and other outlets, the company provided data in an anti-corruption probe targeting Venezuelan government officials associated with Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) and the Venezuelan cryptocurrency regulator Sunacrip.[3][4] Reports indicate that Blockpliance identified transactions between Sunacrip-controlled addresses and the darknet market Hydra Market.[5]

The firm also collaborates with cryptocurrency commentators and investigative channels, such as Digital Asset News,[6] and has participated in technical discussions on cryptocurrency compliance, including events hosted by IBM.[7]

In addition, Blockpliance representatives have provided comments to media outlets such as USA Today regarding cryptocurrency staking[8] and to U.S. News & World Report on the broader implications of cryptocurrency in the face of climate change.[9]

Memberships

[edit]

Blockpliance is a member of the Crypto Market Integrity Coalition.[10]
