Between, a private messaging software made for long distance relationships, originally including friends, families and couples. It has a number of features that improve connection and communication, making it simpler to share significant occasions and memories. It is available on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac OS. It supports 13 languages including English, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese[1].
History

Between, available for iPhone and Android, was unveiled in October 2011 and was officially released at the Launch Conference in San Francisco on March 7, 2012. The app was developed by South Korean start up Value Creators & Co Inc., founded by Jaeuk Park (CEO), Youngmok Kim(CTO), Sungwook Cho (CDO), Kyungjae Woo, and Junghaeng Lee in February 2011[1].
The startup has received an investment of 1 billion Won ($900,000) from Softbank Ventures. It won the best mobile app category at the TNW Conference 2012 and came in second at the recent Echelon 2012 Launchpad. In 2012, Between has 460,000 monthly active users. And these users post 4.5 million messages and 100,000 - 200,000 photos daily[1].
The design of the app theme colour
Junghaeng Lee describe Between as a Tiffany ring. It only belongs to a one-to-one loyal relationship and identifies a serious love or marriage. In fact, the theme color of Between is also a bit like Tiffany[2].
Influences in Asian markets
As Between has been a popular software in South Korea since its first release in 2012, which was estimated that one in five couples were using the app, company targeted to expand the markets in other areas like Taiwan, Singapore and Japan[3].
One-to-one private chat
It provides a safe and private chat function to instantly send stickers and conversations. Users can also create their own animated selfies so you never miss important messages from the most important people.
Memory record
Users can upload their photos and write diary in the app. Between protects all users photos and notes. A world for two people is built. Users can constantly check their memories uploaded.
Real-time voice chat
New features of Between. It is now free for use.
Anniversary record
It can record how long have users have been dating, how many days are left to celebrate users birthday. Other important dates can be also recorded.
Shared calendar
This feature allows the users to write down the dates and set notifications to remind users.

Approximately 91% of Between users are from Asia including Korea (76%), China (7%), Japan (5%), other countries in Asia (3%). Although it is Korea-centric now, this app is geared for global expansion. It already supports 13 languages, namely Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, Spanish, French, Italian, Portugese, Russian, and German.[1]

On average, Between users spent 300 minutes per month using the app in 2012.[3]
