Phlegmacium subrubrovelatum is a species of mushroom producing fungus in the family Cortinariaceae.[1] It was previously known as Cortinarius subrubrovelatus.
Taxonomy
[edit]It was described as new to science in 2008 as a variety of another Cortinarius species, Cortinarius glaucopus var. subrubrovelatus[2] but raised to distinct species status in 2014. It was classified as Cortinarius subrubrovelatus and placed in the subgenus Phlegmacium of the large mushroom genus Cortinarius.[3]
In 2022 the species was transferred from Cortinarius and reclassified as Phlegmacium subrubrovelatum based on genomic data.[4] This study also reclassified Cortinarius glaucopus as Phlegmacium glaucopus.
Habitat and distribution
[edit]The mushroom is found in Central and northern Europe, where it grows in coniferous forests.[3]
