Bobby Jack Brazier (born 2 June 2003) is an English actor and model. He made his catwalk debut at Milan Fashion Week in 2020, and rose to prominence after joining the cast of the BBC One soap opera EastEnders as Freddie Slater in 2022. The latter earned him a National Television Award. Brazier was a contestant on the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2023, and finished as a runner-up.

Early life[edit]

Bobby Jack Brazier was born on 2 June 2003 at Portland Hospital in Westminster, London.[3][4] He is the son of Jeff Brazier, a television presenter, and Jade Goody, a television personality who was known for appearing on the reality series Big Brother.[3][4] He is of English heritage on his father's side, while his mother was of Jamaican and English heritage.[citation needed] His mother died on 22 March 2009 from cervical cancer.[5] Him and his younger brother, Freddie, did not attend her funeral because of the high media attention.[6]

Brazier was raised in Harlow, Essex,[7] and grew up with his brother, father and stepmother Kate Dwyer.[8] He attended a private school in London up until year seven, before moving with his family to Brighton where he was enrolled at a state school.[8] At the state school, Brazier experienced bullying, and after a year, the family moved back to London, where he returned to the private school and completed his GCSEs.[8] While modelling, he worked at a milkshake café,[1] and was briefly a social media apprentice.[9] He also played football.[9]

Career[edit]

Brazier was in the spotlight from birth due to the popularity of his mother, and appeared in the occasional episode of her Sky Living reality series from 2004 until her death in 2009.[8][9] After her death, him and his brother were kept out of the spotlight following the high media presence whilst Goody was alive and during the final months of her life.[7] He made a single appearance in the 2010 documentary titled Jade: A Year Without Her.[9]

Brazier began his modelling career in 2019 at the age of 16 after he was scouted by Cesar Perin whilst walking down the street, and signed to his modelling agency Unsigned Group.[7][10] In January 2020, Brazier made his catwalk debut, modelling for Dolce & Gabbana at Milan Fashion Week.[11] He subsequently modelled for Tommy Hilfiger at London Fashion Week,[12] walked Paris Fashion Week,[7] featured in editorials for the magazines Lewis, MMScene, Odda, Schön! and Tings,[2] and covered the magazine Man About Town.[13]

In September 2022, Brazier appeared on screen for the first time in the cast of the BBC One soap opera EastEnders, taking over the role of Freddie Slater, the son of established character Little Mo Mitchell (Kacey Ainsworth),[14] after the character had last been seen as a baby.[15] He won the award for Rising Star at the 28th National Television Awards for his role on the show,[16] and also received nominations for Best Newcomer and Best Comic Performance at the 2023 Inside Soap Awards.[17]

In 2023, Brazier competed in the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing.[18] Together with his dancing partner Dianne Buswell, they finished as runners-up in the final.[19] Brazier also took part in the 2024 Strictly Come Dancing Live! UK tour.[20] He is set to star in the upcoming Paramount+ thriller series Curfew.[21]
