The 2024 Meghalaya State League(MSL) is the 4th edition of The Meghalaya State League. Meghalaya State League is the top state-level football league in the Indian state of Meghalaya. It is managed by Meghalaya Football Association (MFA).[1] Rangdajied United are the current champions by virtue of winning the third edition.[2][3]

Changes from last season

  • This season introduces a new format with an increase in the number of groups to six, featuring four teams in each group. An extra round of action has also been added with the introduction of quarterfinals. The top team from each group, along with the two best second-placed teams overall, will qualify for the knockout stage.

Format

This season the best clubs from the various affiliated district units of the MFA(Meghalaya Football Association) will be divided between six groups of four teams each playing their round robin matches at six venues across the state.

Each of the group winners plus the two best second-placed teams from across the six groups will qualify for the quarterfinal round followed by the semifinals and the final.

Groups

In each group, teams will play each other once.

  The six group winners and the two best runners-up will qualify for the quarterfinals.
Tiebreakers
Teams will be ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss), and if tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria are applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings
  1. Points in matches among tied teams;
  2. Goal difference in matches among tied teams;
  3. Goals scored in matches among tied teams;
  4. If more than two teams are tied, and after applying all criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams;
  5. Goal difference in all group matches;
  6. Goals scored in all group matches;
  7. Penalty shoot-out if only two teams are tied and they met in the last round of the group;
  8. Disciplinary points (yellow card = 1 point, red card as a result of two yellow cards = 3 points, direct red card = 3 points, yellow card followed by direct red card = 4 points);
  9. Drawing of lots.
